Mentorship Program 2021

APPLICATIONS FOR FEBRUARY 2021 INTAKE HAVE NOW CLOSED. 

IAB Australia’s Mentorship Program was launched in 2019 to support the younger talented staff employed by our member companies. Spearheaded by the IAB Executive Technology Council the Mentorship Program aims to provide a framework for the industry to collaborate and support the young and rising digital talent as well as better equip them for the challenging career path they have embarked upon.

All IAB Mentors are carefully vetted to ensure their suitability for the role by the Mentorship Committee and carefully place with Mentees based on their expertise, experience and availability. To apply, you must be employed by an IAB Australia member company and have no more than 10 years digital industry experience.

Each mentor has over 10 years experience in the media industry and are carefully vetted to ensure their suitability for the role by the Mentorship Committee. The IAB carefully places Mentors with their Mentees based on their expertise, experience and availability. Also we have listed the State they are based in for your reference but this doesn't mean you can't ask for a mentor in another state!

Naomi Shepherd

Naomi is the Group Industry Director at Facebook.

As Group Industry Director at Facebook and Instagram, Naomi Shepherd works relentlessly at furthering Facebook’s mission to bring the world closer together. The Industries she works across cover FMCG, Retail and eCommerce where she is focused on helping businesses discover the power of mobile to grow their businesses. Prior to her remits of how millions of Australians discover their Facebook and Instagram newsfeeds on their mobiles, Naomi gained extensive experience from a career in broadcast and digital, both locally and in New York and the UK.

Amy McCormack

Amy is the MD and Founder of A&A Digital Services.

Amy has been part of the digital media industry since the late 1990’s, working her way through ad operations, media sales, sales strategy and product management at some of Australia’s largest media organisations. In 2011, with a young family and having noticed a gap in the local market around ad ops and ad tech support, she launched her own business A&A Digital focusing on providing high quality, locally-based support for publishers and agencies around ad ops, ad tech, programmatic and training.

Gai is the CEO at IAB Australia.

Gai is the CEO of IAB Australia which is the peak advocacy, research & standards body representing digital media and advertising. Gai has worked in the media industry for 30 years and the digital ad industry since 1998. Prior to running the IAB Gai held senior data, strategy and research roles at Fairfax Media, Nielsen, ninemsn & Gateway Research. Gai is a global leader in cross media measurement, effectiveness and strategy as well as building and managing teams that help close the divide between digital and traditional marketing.

Dan Robins

Dan is the Director - CMO Advisory at PwC Australia. 

Across his 15 year career Dan has worked with some of the biggest brands in the UK, Australia and across the APAC region advising on their media investment and data-led media approaches. Dan has a deep understanding of media technology and data on both the buy and sell sides and how their application can drive business growth for brands. Having a background on both the buy and sell side gives Dan a reasonably unique perspective. He is a firm believer in doing what feels right at the time and building a story rather than pre-designing a destination where all careers need to end up at.

James Bayes brings nearly twenty years of experience in senior digital, sales leadership, technology, and media agency roles in Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. He joined The Trade Desk from Seven Network where he led all aspects of the company’s digital commercial operations. James has been at the forefront of data-driven addressable TV in Australia, and brings a wealth of hands-on experience in the rapid transformation of the broadcast industry and IP-delivered video. James is a graduate of the University of Melbourne, and is based in The Trade Desk’s Sydney office.

Natasha is the Head of Client Services at Bench.

Natasha has 15 years experience in media sales, client servicing and management acquired across programmatic, print and magazines. Natasha has been at Bench for one year as Head of Client Services and was shortlisted for the Women in Media 2020 awards. She thoroughly enjoys leading and working with her team this industry, as she's able to help support and navigate them through their career and roles within the organisation. She's passionate about the latest developments in technology and data ensuring customers are successful and fully up to speed with the latest market trends. Outside of work Natasha is also a certified Yoga teacher and teaches regularly.

Sarah is the Digital Strategy and Capability Lead QLD and NSW for News Corp. 

Sarah has worked in the media industry for over 14 years, first in agencies and then at media owners such as News Corp, Seven and Nine across both sales and strategy roles. Her current role is at News Corp as the Digital Strategy and Capability Lead for NSW and QLD where she trains and coaches the salespeople to deliver holistic digital solutions to client's marketing challenges.

Ricky is the Head of Sales AUNZ at Twitch.

Ricky Chanana is the Head of Sales for Twitch ANZ, where he believes in utilising consumer research, actionable insights and market awareness to help his clients supercharge their business results. He has worked in the advertising industry for over 16 years and has extensive experience on both the buy and sell sides. Throughout his career at media agencies and publishers, he has worked with major global and local brands within prominent categories, including FMCG, auto, finance and retail. Prior to joining Twitch, Ricky was the Managing Director of Unruly for three years where he led the sales, operations and other business functions.

Jonas has been working as a Technology Lead for IAB Australia since January 2017, having previously been a board member for almost 5 years. Prior to this he was Head of Media Strategy and Operations as well as Head of Media at REA Group. Over the past 20 years Jonas has direct experience in AdOperations, Publishing, Ad Sales, Partnerships, Product and management.

Poppy Hill

Poppy is the Managing Director APAC at OpenSlate.

Over the last seven years, Poppy has been developing programmatic marketplaces and commercial strategies in senior positions at InMobi, Multi-Channel Network and Network 10. She played an integral role in launching Network 10's video on demand platform 10play and was the head of programmatic at InMobi where she launched and was responsible for their Australia and New Zealand marketplace. Poppy is currently the Managing Director APAC of OpenSlate, an independent provider of video content ratings and brand safety solutions across the world's largest digital platforms YouTube and Facebook.

Nina Vanneck

Nina is the Country Manager - Publisher Partnerships AUNZ at Google.

Nina Vanneck joined Google in 2010 in the UK Media & Publishing Team, relocating to the Sydney office in 2015 to be Country Manager for AUNZ Publisher Partnerships. Nina is an online media all-rounder, working in the digital media space since 2000 in a mixture of programming, channel management, business development, account management, research and sales strategy roles. She has worked at different publishers including News Corp, Fairfax, Yahoo!7 and AOL. Nina is a mother of 2 little ones, 7 and 3. She was a facilitator of a course called 'Taking the Stage', that shows women how to speak with courage and confidence so they can be seen and heard as leaders.

Paolo is the Marketing Lead JAPAC at Xandr.

Paolo was appointed Marketing Lead, JAPAC at Xandr in September 2017. Currently based in Sydney, Paolo is responsible for overseeing Xandr’s marketing and communications initiatives across Asia-Pacific. Prior to this, Paolo spent two years with AppNexus (now known as Xandr) in a Commercial role, helping drive programmatic adoption within Australia’s largest publishers. Paolo has over 15 years’ experience working across agencies, publishers and management consulting in both Sydney and London. He is passionate about building deeper customer engagement through better understanding human behaviour, the development of thoughtful and meaningful strategy, and the appropriate application of technology.

Leading the business across Asia Pacific and Japan, with 20 years of experience in media and ad tech and a proven record of driving results in the region. She was formerly Senior Vice President across Asia Pacific for Telaria, prior to the company's merger with Rubicon Project to form Magnite. Juliette is passionate about leveraging technology to create new opportunities and solutions for business partners, especially when that converts to an enhanced experience for the end user. Natalie Stanbury

Natalie is the Research Director at IAB Australia. 

Natalie has been working as Director of Research at the IAB Australia since February 2019. In her role Natalie works with the IAB Audience Measurement Council in developing the industry standard audience measurement methodology and with the IAB Ad Effectiveness Council to refine the best methods to assess the impact of advertising. She also works on research projects and initiatives to support the continued investment in digital advertising in Australia. Natalie has gained extensive research expertise and industry experience from her previous positions as Research Director at News Corp Australia, Head of Research & Insights at Fairfax Media, as well as working with ninemsn and Ticketek.

Erica Blakslee

Erica is the Senior Account Director at Xandr. 

Originally from San Francisco, Erica started out in the media planning team at the agency Foote, Cone and Belding, then moved publisher side in a sales position with MySpace (remember them!?) and helped to initially establish Criteo in Australia. She has been working alongside publishers in an account management capacity with Xandr (AppNexus) for the past 4.5 years, with a 1 year hiatus on maternity leave with a baby boy.

Flaminia is the Head of Partnerships and Strategic Investment at Matterkind, the Programmatic hub of IPG Mediabrands. Flaminia heads the Group’s addressable negotiations and investment strategy across Media, and Technology, and looks after IPG clients’ premium inventory strategy for ANZ. She has previously worked in Ad Operations as well as Paid Search & SEO. Flaminia was born and raised in Italy - and has been living Sydney for the past 8 years.

With over 10 years of experience in digital marketing and 7 years focused on programmatic, Janette has built a solid career in the ad tech community, serving as an educator of programmatic advertising for buyers and using her consultative approach to strategically align with customer needs. Janette began her career in financial journalism before entering the world of digital solutions for Linkedin, iCumulus and Yahoo7, where she sharpened her technical trading and management skills. From there, Janette worked at Criteo running the supply business for the sub-region before moving on to Postr and becoming Global Head of Ad Strategy and Platforms. In 2018, she joined Index Exchange where she leads all buy-side business endeavours across the APAC region.

Barney has been with Google for over 10 years, working in a variety of sales, strategy & ops,  and product commercialization leadership roles and across AUNZ, APAC and US Markets. In his previous roles, he was responsible for Google’s Display and Marketing Technology go to market strategy in APAC. This included testing, launching and scaling new products that improve the marketing capabilities of partners in the region. Prior to Google, Barney was a Marketing Professional for over 8 years, working for organizations including Citibank, InterContinental Hotels Group and a successful Australian start-up IT Services Company called KAZ Computers. Barney is also a graduate of The University of Sydney's Economics Faculty.

James started his digital career in London in the early 2000’s and over 8 years worked at several starts ups and European Ad Tech firms including Uswitch.com, Upmystreet.com and Ad Pepper Media. In 2010 James moved to Melbourne and founded Interplay Media which today is a sell side programmatic agency handling media sales for dozens of Australian and international publishers such as Activision Blizzard, Under Armour Connected Fitness, Sports and Entertainment Network and Genius.com.
