25 February, 2013 – News Limited’s group director – sales Fiorella Di Santo today announced the launch of the 2013 News Limited Cannes Young Lions competition.
Now in its fifth year, the program searches for the country’s best young creative talent to represent Australia at the 2013 International Festival of Creativity in Cannes.
Ms Di Santo said: “Every year, through the competition, we are inspired and encouraged by the level of creative talent in the Australian industry. It’s important that we continue to celebrate, foster and reward this talent.
“Over time, we have seen media executions become more sophisticated, innovative and multi-platform making it essential for young creatives to adapt their ideas and strategies to complement this change. It is no easy feat and I’m looking forward to unearthing the young talent who can represent Australia against the world’s best in Cannes.”
To enter, participants must develop a media response or creative solution for a brief they select across five categories – film, cyber, media, print and marketing.
A panel of industry specialists judge the entries and finalists participate in an intensive skills training session across a variety of areas to benefit their Cannes and career journey.
In Sydney, finalists are then challenged to respond to a brief for their respective categories within 24 hours. Film finalists complete a 48 hour brief.
The winners are announced at a cocktail event on 10 May.
Ms Di Santo continued: “The opportunities and experience the News Limited Young Lions program give young Australian creative talent is invaluable. Entrants develop essential career skills and receive exposure to Australia’s most senior creative and brand leaders. This culminates in winners representing Australia at the world’s most reputable creative advertising festival in Cannes.
“Good luck to all entrants.”
Competition entries close on Wednesday 10 April. Entries are open to anyone under age 28. Entries to the marketing category are open to anyone under 30.
News Limited is the official Australian representative of the Cannes International Festival of Creativity.
